Joao Pedro’s injury-time header delivered a dramatic 2-1 victory for Brighton against Manchester United, leaving Erik ten Hag stunned.
The match looked set to end in a draw until Pedro found himself unmarked to head home a cross from substitute Simon Adingra in the 95th minute.
This win caps a strong start for Brighton’s new manager, 31-year-old Fabian Hurzeler, who had already led his team to a victory over Everton in their opening game.
Manchester United had briefly looked set to secure a point when Amad Diallo equalized, cancelling out an earlier goal by former United striker Danny Welbeck.
A controversial moment came in the 70th minute when Alejandro Garnacho’s apparent goal was ruled out by VAR after the ball hit Joshua Zirkzee, who was on the line.
Despite sustained pressure from United, Brighton’s determination paid off, allowing them to snatch all three points.
